Big Hands Helping Little Hands
ABCs and 1,2,3's. Letters, colors and shapes. Making pretend with tiaras and capes. Those are the only things little people should think about at their home away from home.
Metropolitan Family Services' North Center provides early childhood education and childcare to almost 90 children, ages 2 to 5 years old. The Children's Center serves families from the Belmont Cragin, Portage Park and Hermosa communities on Chicago's Northwest Side. The classroom activities engage critical thinking skills with play and lay the foundation for self-esteem and social skills development. Where we can help: The five classrooms are in need of some TLC. These rooms are in need of a fresh coat of paint and stencil designs. The rooms, desks, chairs, cubes and toys all need to be cleaned and sanitized, and outdoor herb gardens need to be planted for the children and their parents to learn about the importance of nutrition. In addition to the children's center, if we confirm a large amount of volunteers, we will also clean up the playground and community garden at our neighbor grammar school, Reinberg Elementary, and clean-up the two blocks on Central Avenue between Metropolitan Family Services and Reinberg Elementary.
